Ricardo is currently a Visiting Scholar at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and Director at Estado Group in Brazil. Previously he was responsible for the content and journalism production of the whole group, which flagship is the daily and 137-years-old newspaper "O Estado de S.Paulo".

After having worked as a engineer (1985-1987) and business consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (1987-1989), he started his career as a journalist at Folha de S.Paulo, where he worked as a economic and business reporter, editor, deputy director and founded PubliFolha, a publishing house. At Editora Globo, he managed the book division (2000) and the weekly magazine Época (2001). From 2002 to 2006 he was the general director of Diário de S.Paulo, a metropolitan newspaper.
