Mariko Horikawa is Deputy Manager of the Department of Research & Development Operations at The Yomiuri Shimbun (Japan). Since joining The Yomiuri Shimbun in 1984, Mariko Horikawa has has covered breaking news both domestic and international, reported on the latest developments in health and medicine, and served as editor for the Arts page of The Daily Yomiuri. In addition to her overseas assignment as a Yomiuri correspondent in Sydney, Australia from 1992 to 1995, Ms. Horikawa was a visiting lecturer at the University of California Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism in 2004. She has also been appointed to lead several projects, which are charting the future course of the newspaper, and lectures about the media at Japanese universities.
