William Pike was editor and managing director of the New Vision in Uganda for 21 years. With very little investment, he turned it into a highly profitable newspaper company.

In 2007 he moved to Kenya to start the Star which is now the recognised No 3 newspaper in a very competitive market. The Star moved into profit in 2011. The Star is a subsidiary of the Radio Africa Group which operates radio and TV stations in Kenya and grew out of Capital Radio which started in Uganda in 1994.
